Sales of the console began in November 2001. Xbox was the first console produced by Microsoft [3], which introduced the hardware to the market after the premiere of the competitive Sony PlayStation 2 console, and before the premiere of the GameCube designed by Nintendo. Both of these companies already had some experience in the console market and associated users, but the main target markets for Microsoft's product have become the United States and Europe, previously dominated by devices from Japan. In November 2005, the successor of the Xbox - Xbox 360 appeared on the market. In 2009, representatives of Microsoft announced that support for the Xbox console would be terminated. On April 15, 2010, the Xbox Live service for the first Xbox was turned off [4].
According to data from 2012, around 24 million copies of the console were sold worldwide [5].

It is the first console that uses a hard disk to save game states, instead of expensive memory cards with a small capacity [7]. The hard drive is also used to copy data from a DVD to speed up data access. The console also supported traditional memory cards. The built-in Ethernet port and the Xbox Live network service allow for easy multiplayer gaming.
The executable files used by the Xbox console were in the XBE format [8].

Xbox Series X - design
In terms of design, the Xbox Series X looks completely different than its predecessors. First, the next-generation console has a vertical tower design that resembles a gaming PC. Microsoft promises much faster loading times for games, which is possible not only thanks to efficient components, but also the implementation of certain technical solutions.
High performance is due to the Xbox Velocty Architecture - it allows for optimal cooperation between hardware and software, it is also supposed to be a revolutionary change in game streaming. This is the producer's response to modern AAA productions, which are characterized by a large, open world (such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey or Red Dead Redemption 2). Therefore, the console element is a capacious SSD drive and the ability to easily expand memory.

Other important novelties are the Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) technology, enabling support for HDMI 2.1 along with elements dedicated to games, such as 120 Hz screen refresh, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) or Auto Low Latency mode. Interestingly, the Xbox Series X development team has been working with "leading TV manufacturers" (such as Samsung) for two years to adapt their products so that they can become part of the Xbox ecosystem.

The "on paper" Xbox Series X looks better than competing Sony equipment. According to Alexander Battaglia - one of the representatives of the popular Digital Foundry website, the Microsoft console is simply clearly more powerful than Sony equipment and further discussion on this subject does not make any sense. According to Bataglia, problems on the "giant from Redmond" console can appear only in two cases: developers decide to set too high a resolution or make mistakes while optimizing the game. The specialist also added that "sometimes just some things are better than others, such as the GeForce RTX 2080 is better than the RTX 2060".
The high performance of the Xbox Series X is to make some titles offer us 4K gameplay while maintaining 120 frames per second. This has already been confirmed by representatives of the Dynamic Voltage Games studio, who are currently working on an exclusive title for the Xbox Series X. Smooth gameplay (at 120 fps) will also be offered by Dirt 5 from Codemasters, although not in 4K resolution.
The new generation by Microsoft is more than just a game console. It is a multimedia entertainment center with which you can talk via Skype with friends, watch TV, share with your friends the fragment of the game recorded a moment ago or turn on your favorite movie by voice command. And all of this without interrupting the fun. The new, much more perfect Kinect sensor and the remodeled controller will allow you to conveniently control all the functionalities of the new Xbox.
